Ground Navigation Combat Demo

Ground Navigation

NPCs navigate complex terrain efficiently and without manual markup, allowing agents to adapt seamlessly when terrain moves, is created or destroyed.

By automating the laborious parts of level design, Kythera AI saves hundreds of hours of repetitive manual markup — eliminating error-prone tasks and freeing your designers to build more creative and interesting games.

Automatic NavMesh

At the heart of Kythera AI Ground Navigation is the dynamic navigation mesh system, which defines the surfaces that players and NPCs can walk on. The navmesh can be regenerated as design changes are made to the level with no configuration or pre-processing required, allowing more complex procedurally generated levels to work smoothly.

With immediate visual feedback right there in the editor, it couldn’t be simpler to sculpt a fully-functioning world.

Automatic Cover Generation And Contextual Navigation

Kythera AI intelligently analyzes your level’s geometry to generate high-quality cover rails along terrain edges or surfaces, with no manual markup required. It comes with a number of cover types for varying degrees of cover that can be generated out of the box, or, users can create and configure custom Cover Categories to suit their game.

Kythera AI generates navigational paths for characters and agents with ease, saving huge amounts of designer work when building levels. Kythera AI’s contextual navigation capabilities automatically places navigation links into levels based on their geometry both at the time of design and dynamically in-game as the environment changes through gameplay. This powerful feature makes it  far faster for designers and developers to create more intelligent and more realistic game AI.

Automatic Cost Area Generation

Kythera AI streamlines navigation by automatically mapping environment textures to NavMesh costs. This feature enables precise, automated cost markup of the NavMesh, allowing agents to interpret terrain types accurately and navigate more intuitively.

With both automated and manual cost-marking options, developers gain full control over how agents perceive and respond to different areas. This flexibility ensures that agents can prioritize efficient or safe routes based on terrain, leading to more lifelike, adaptive behaviors that seamlessly enhance gameplay.

Pathing and Avoidance

Kythera AI's advanced pathfinding feature generates diverse routes by dynamically adjusting path costs. This creates varied, unpredictable paths instead of a single optimal route, making gameplay feel fresh and engaging. By tagging previously crossed areas with a higher traversal cost, the AI continuously finds new paths, encouraging exploration and adaptability within the game world.

This flexible pathfinding system benefits both developers and players. Developers can rely on Kythera AI for complex, unscripted AI behaviors, allowing them to focus on broader themes, while players enjoy a deeper, more immersive experience that keeps gameplay exciting and memorable.

Kythera AI’s Avoidance system enables characters to steer around each other with fluid movement. Whether in a sparsely populated area or a scene with hundreds of characters and objects, Avoidance enables characters to navigate effectively, evading one another with robust and efficient movement.

Surface Navigation demo

Surface Navigation

Surface Navigation enables agents to navigate 3D spaces while staying close to surfaces, automating NPC and agent navigation across walls and ceilings as well as complex, three dimensional surfaces.

From magbooted astronauts clambering outside space stations to an assassin scaling a building or a bottom-dweller navigating an underwater cavern, studios can instantly realize unique designs with AI powered Surface Navigation.

Surface NavMesh Generation

Automatically generates navigation mesh across all surfaces - even vertical ones. Kythera AI’s tools make it easy and intuitive to add extra complexity and automatically redefines the NavMesh after any changes to the level environment.

Pathfinding and Avoidance

Kythera AI's pathfinding and following algorithms handle the increased complexity of vertical and inverted navigation with ease, with no extra development effort needed. Just set your destination points for the desired journey, and let AI powered Surface Navigation generate the agent’s path. Kythera AI Surface Navigation will route the path and automatically have the agent find and follow it.

Like Flight and Ground Navigation, Surface Navigation is sophisticated enough to navigate multiple agents across intersecting paths while successfully avoiding collisions.

Flight Navigation Demo

Flight Navigation

AI that understands its environment to guide agents in dense, dynamic three-dimensional worlds. Whether your game is set amongst the stars, or in the depths of the ocean, Flight Navigation allows you to create creatures and vehicles that confidently fly and fight in open environments.

Automatic Octree Generation

Kythera AI analyzes the geometry of a level in three dimensions to automatically generate a multi-threaded Octree. Kythera AI Octrees are built into the Unreal Engine editor and update automatically when the level is modified.

This means that design changes to the level instantly redraw the Octree, with no configuration or pre-processing required, allowing more complex procedurally generated levels to work smoothly. With immediate visual feedback right there in the editor, it couldn’t be simpler to sculpt a fully-functioning world. The Octree dynamically updates at run-time, adapting as the level is modified in the editor.

The resolution of the Octree affects the navigation of tight spaces. This resolution and the range of support for agent sizes can be fully configured, allowing developers to choose to optimize for memory usage or more accurate navigation in tight spaces.

Advanced Navigation Splines

Advanced octree navigation — fast and fully dynamic

Kythera AI’s cutting-edge navigation tools allow AI vehicles to fly and fight while confidently navigating rich 3D environments. Kythera AI powered vehicles can move skillfully through complex terrains and around dynamic obstacles - including through caverns and cave networks - all whilst maintaining responsive flight and combat formations. With Kythera AI’s advanced splines, AI agents can follow and join splines with realistic motion and remain aware of their environment while on the spline.

Avoidance

With Kythera AI Flight Navigation, agents run full AI Avoidance on their spline, dynamically reacting to obstacles that appear in the flight path while airborne.  Advanced steering based on RVOs allows agents to smoothly avoid up to hundreds of other moving objects at once. Lightning-fast, asynchronous pathfinding ensures that our AI can confidently navigate complex environments.

The realistic adaptability of Kythera AI Flight navigation offers designers greater control and creative freedom when designing levels in open, three-dimensional worlds.
